Why Learn Kitsuke with Guidance
Learning kitsuke on your own can be frustrating. Many people start with YouTube, but small details are often missed — how tight to adjust, how to balance the collar, or how to make everything sit neatly. These details make a big difference in how the kimono looks and feels.
With proper guidance, you can progress much faster and build a solid foundation from the beginning. Instead of repeating the same mistakes, you learn the correct form step by step, making the process more efficient and enjoyable.
Kimono Starter Course
This course is designed for beginners who want to start properly.
Instead of learning step by step and still missing tools, you will receive your own kitsuke set — so you can practice anytime at home.
Foundation (Lessons 1–4)
We start with the essential base.
These lessons focus on understanding how kimono is worn and how to create a clean silhouette.
- Basic folding and handling
- Body shaping and wearing the nagajuban (undergarment)
- How to attach the haneri (half-collar)
- How to wear and adjust the kimono
Everyday Kimono (Lessons 5–6)
Once the basics are stable, we move into everyday dressing.
- Review and refinement of dressing flow
- Wearing kimono with a Nagoya obi (Otaiko style)
Intermediate (Lessons 7–8)
Here, the focus shifts to more structure and precision.
- Tsunadoshi obi-musubi
- Wearing a semi-formal kimono (houmongi) with a fukuro obi (double taiko)
- Decorative collar adjustment (eri styling)
Yukata (Lesson 9)
A lighter and more casual style, especially for summer.
- Yukata dressing
- Half-width obi (hanhaba obi) tying
- Ichimonji style
- Kai-no-kuchi style
With small adjustments, these styles can also be adapted into more decorative knots such as bunko.
Custom Lessons (Lessons 10–13)
These sessions are flexible and can be tailored to your goals.
You can:
- choose different topics each time
- or repeat the same lesson to refine your skills
For example, some students repeat formal dressing multiple times to gain confidence.
Final Review (Lessons 14–15)
The final sessions are for consolidation.
- Building confidence to dress independently
- Full dressing flow from start to finish
- Adjustments and refinement
Available Options for Custom Lessons
- Kimono with Nagoya obi (self-dressing)
- Formal kimono with fukuro obi (self-dressing)
- Yukata with hanhaba obi (self-dressing)

About me
Hi, I’m Yen. I began my journey through Japanese tea ceremony (Urasenke), where I developed a deep appreciation for kimono and its role in everyday practice.
After years of learning kitsuke and dressing others, I now share this knowledge through structured lessons, focusing on clarity and practical technique.
My goal is to make kimono accessible — even for complete beginners.
